Call to Worship
Our hearts are ready, O Lord, our hearts are ready!
We will sing and make melody!
We will awaken the dawn!
We will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples,
we will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great above the heavens,
and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
—based on Psalm 108:1-4
How long, lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Look on me and answer, lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the LORD’s praise,
for he has been good to me.
—Psalm 13, NIV
A Litany for Puerto Rico
Loving Almighty One, we claim your promises of wholeness and provision when we pray for one another.
God, as we join in prayer and in spirit for your people, our brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico,
we celebrate that You are our comfort and strength in times of disaster,
crisis and pain.
Today, Puerto Rico faces a great challenge and has chosen to shout “Puerto Rico rises up.”
“Puerto Rico rises up.” Surround them with your grace and peace.
You are the God who lifts up those who have fallen and sustains those who work to rescue or rebuild ruined cities.
In your love; give comfort to those who grieve, give healing to those who are ill,
and make the broken whole again.
In the days and weeks and months ahead there will be difficulties and tears, but your grace will give our country the strength to move forward. As they begin to rebuild and as we put our hearts, hands and resources together to help, we commend them and us to your care.
Give them and give us a clear sense of purpose and concern for others
so we may create a community where your will may be done.
Together we praise your name as agents of your love. May the certainty of your presence bring hope and strength.
Puerto Rico will rise up in the name of the Lord. Amen.

May the God of hope
fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
so that you may abound in hope
by the power of the Holy Spirit.
